Martin Luther King Jr against the war in Vietnam

Martin Luther King Jr. Day

We all know MLK Jr., right. But do you really?? Sure, we know he fought hard for equal rights. But do you also know he stood firmly against the war in Vietnam? (It's likely that equal rights was something the people in power could stand, but also being anti-way likely pushed past their limits.) Listen to the full speech here:
http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article2564.htm

In fact, by 1967, King had become the country's most prominent opponent of the Vietnam War. A year to the day before he was murdered King called the United States "the greatest purveyor of
violence in the world today."

Time magazine called the speech "demagogic slander that sounded like a script for Radio Hanoi," and the Washington Post declared that King had "diminished his usefulness to his cause, his country, his people."

So take this opportunity to educate yourself about what he had to say. And for inspiration, there's some nice MP3s of him speaking with some well thought out backing music here:

(search for both Martin Luther King Jr and MLK)

And if you can be honest with yourself and stand that honesty, check out just how tolerant you really are at the
http://www.tolerance.org website. There's a link to a tolerance test at implicit.harvard.edu/ (you have to register to be able to take the test(s).) There is also a tutorial at
http://tolerance.org/hidden_bias/tutorials that allows you to think about what your views are.

And, lastly, to refresh your memory of the reason for the fight led by Mr. King, go here:

Please show honor on the 16th.
